Love the romantic comedy genre? The release of the aptly named Romantic Comedy should hold your attention! The young director Thibault Ségouin unveils his first feature film, nourished by numerous references to the genre. “I really like romantic comedies, (…) especially the English ones, Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and my favorite, Love at First sight in Notting Hill.”

For this film, the filmmaker brings together Alex Lutz and Golshifteh Farahani. By choosing Alex Lutz, the director does not hide his desire to find a kind of “cousin” of Hugh Grant, who can play “both the lost losers and the obstinate lovers, these immature types full of charm to whom we forgive everything, their absences as well as their lies“.
The idea was to find someone who could play”melancholy, irony, playfulness, humor, lies, fragility, immaturity“. Alex Lutz also sings in the film for the occasion. Golshifteh Farahani also shines musically, playing the hang drum.
Like any good self-respecting romantic comedy, the city, the places where the plot takes place occupy an important place. The film is almost a declaration of love for the Montmartre district.
This district “has never disappointed me and it still fascinates me as much, emphasizes the director. It may bubble up and constantly evolve, but it retains its uniqueness. It is like a mosaic of “villages”. (…)
And then, what photogeny! Choosing Montmartre as the setting for my first film and revisiting it in all its cultural diversity was for me equivalent to making a declaration of love to it. We tried to give it the colors and the dynamic that Woody Allen gives in his films in Manhattan.”
