The victim was discovered on July 16 around 5:15 a.m., lying on a roundabout in Betton, a town located 10 km north of Rennes. “The investigations made it possible to quickly arrest two young men, a minor born in 2005 in Guyana, domiciled in Le Mans, unknown to the justice system, and a young adult born in 2004 in Guyana domiciled in Rennes, little known to the judicial institution. “, indicates the public prosecutor of Rennes in a press release. The two protagonists “were found at Le Mans in the Mercedes vehicle stolen from the victim”, he adds. The septuagenarian obtained 30 days of ITT (total incapacity for work) and the forensic certificate mentions “six wounds compatible with the action of a knife” as well as “fractures of the facial bone”.
The investigation was entrusted to the research brigade of the Rennes gendarmerie. The young adult was referred to the Rennes prosecutor’s office on Monday. “A criminal judicial investigation of the counts of attempted murder due to the sexual orientation of the victim and robbery with a weapon has been opened”, according to the press release. The penalty is life imprisonment.
During the hearings, the suspect declared having met the victim by chance in the street, in Rennes, on the night of July 14 to 15. After some discussion, an appointment was agreed for July 16. He admitted “having stabbed the victim in the vehicle and outside it”, explaining his act because of his “supposed homosexuality (…) but also with a view to stealing it” , which is why he left with his vehicle, adds the prosecutor. The situation of the minor, who is not concerned by the criminal acts mentioned, will be “assessed by the Le Mans prosecution with regard to a possible qualification of concealment”, he concludes.
