The case had shocked Italy. On Friday, January 22, local media reported that 10-year-old Antonella had died after playing the headscarf game following a challenge on the TikTok platform. A tragedy which led to a radical decision on the part of the Italian authorities: the temporary blocking of the social network in the country.
An influencer indicted
Following the first elements of the investigation, a 48-year-old Sicilian influencer was accused on Thursday, January 28 of inciting suicide. "The investigators of the Postal Police found on the social network a link leading to the profile of the Sicilian influencer in which we see a video in which she reproduces a challenge with a man, completely covering her face, including her mouth and the nose, with transparent tape, so as not to be able to breathe, ”the statement explains.
The headscarf game has been practiced in schoolyards for decades. This dangerous game, characterized by strangulation, suffocation and apnea as reported by the magazine IT, does not escape any generation, and causes many child deaths.
