a small change that makes widgets prettier

Individual contact widgets in Google Contacts update. While they already integrated Material You, Google is going further in its proposal.

For several years, Google has integrated its Material You design everywhere, in all its applications, in all its services. The contacts widgets in its application were already taking advantage of this and are being updated.

Contacts are more rounded: Contacts goes from rectangle to pill

It is 9to5Google which reports this change to contacts widgets in version 4.17 of Google Contacts. The 1 x1 version does not change and always remains the photo of the contact in a circle, the same for the 2 x 2.

It is mainly the 3 x 1, 4 x 1 and 5 x 1 widgets that change. They abandon the rectangular shape with rounded corners for a pill shape. This same pill that we find in the photo block of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, but also more generally throughout Material You. Each time, the contact photo is inserted on the left in a circle and on the right there is a call button and a button to send a message. For the 4 x 1 and 5 x 1 versions, you even have the right to display the contact name.

Google Contacts highlights photos of your loved ones

Until now, widgets displayed a contact bubble with a call button and a message button far apart. Google Contacts moves to a more classic layout with 2 x 3, 3 x 3 and 5 x 5 widgets. Each time, the contact photo takes up all the space.

The call and message shortcuts are both tucked into one corner of the widget, very close to each other.

It is at the level of the buttons or the pill that the colors are personalized, with that of the background of the buttons as well as the color of the icons. They can use Monet, the function allowing them to adapt the colors of the interface according to that of their wallpaper.
