A stage for the young star Remco Evenepoel

The Belgian professional cyclist has gone through an intensive maturing process. In the atmospherically grandiose opening stage of the Tour of Switzerland, he underlines his status as a favourite. Marc Hirschi is fourth, Gino Mäder loses time.

Remco Evenepoel says at the Tour de Suisse: “They will try to break me. But I’m optimistic that I can keep up.”

Once Remco Evenepoel was asked if he knew Johan de Muynck. Of course he did. De Muynck is the last Belgian cyclist to win a three-week tour, triumphing in the 1978 Giro d’Italia. Evenepoel casually added that his butcher happened to be called Johan de Muynck. There is good meat there.
