But there, on the other hand, we will have to calm down, since the big boss of the studio does not see himself returning any time soon.

The aftermath of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be a long time coming

Did you want new Larian games quickly? You will be disappointed. Swen Vincke has just gently dashed all fans’ hopes during a speech in the columns of IGN. The man, who has just won a new award for his work in Malaysia, said a word of thanks that spoke volumes. Thanking everyone for the new accolade he received at the 2024 SEA Game Awards, Vincke said: “We have to work hard on the next game so we can be here again in five years”. A sentence that did not fall on deaf ears, since it was immediately taken up by IGN during an interview during which Swen Vincke explained himself. Amused, the man said that it was a joke, not information to be taken at face value. If he doesn’t give us a shooting window for his next game, the developer still specifies that it will take a while. “These are big games and it takes time, so don’t give us a date”he declares.

What’s next at Larian Studio?

2029 seems a long way off, but it could well be even longer than that. A cold shower for fans already very impatient to discover the studio’s new production. But Larian wants to take his time, without pressure, and that’s also why Divinity and Baldur’s Gate 3 are so generous and well put together. The studio likes to refine its productions and that’s good. Baldur’s Gate 3 has already received very big updates and it will certainly continue to be patched for a while, and we know that the developers are already hard at work on their next big games. Two very ambitious titles developed in parallel. However, we do not know what it is exactly. What is certain, however, is that it is not Baldur’s Gate 4. Moreover, Wizards of the Coast is actively seeking to capitalize on its franchise following the crazy success of BG3.
