a super ambitious film that will change everything

After an excellent film The Batman, its sequel is full of great promises to give a little mouth water to future viewers. And obviously it’s going to be huge.

In 2022 we could discover in dark rooms the no less obscure The Batman by Matt Reeves with, for the very first time on screen, a Dark Knight played by Robert Pattinson. Younger version of the superhero but also darker than what we used to see with a realistic vision of the city of Gotham. It was enough to put in the pocket a large part of the spectators. Inevitably the expectation is great for the sequel and its director does not hesitate to excite everyone.

The Batman 2: a grand sequel?

It is within the Teamdeakins podcast that director Matt Reeves was able to talk about his work and in particular his The Batman 2. The man did not hesitate to make beautiful promises, visibly very confident about his feature film project which, for the record, should normally be released on October 3, 2025.

I spoke to Greig Fraser (cinematographer)…I’m trying to write the next movie right now…and he was like, ‘Let’s push it even further.’

In other words, aesthetically speaking the film should be a slap and push the image even further. And precisely the aesthetics is surely one of the main reasons for the success of the film (besides the staging and the work of the actors). For the first time we had the right to a totally different vision of the city of Gotham, which is very far from the version of Burton and that of Nolan. An in-between who comes to dig into the darkness of one and the reality of the other. It is also important to note the number of fairly mind-blowing scenes in the dark, which is what a Batman movie should be to respect the Comics.

The sequel to a great movie

As said above, The Batman focuses on a younger, less experienced version of the Dark Knight. The plot also takes place in a dark and realistic version of Gotham City, where Batman tries to solve a series of crimes and complex puzzles. Very clearly the feature film relies a little less on the action unlike the other works, which brings it a little closer to the Batman of Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The Batman 2 should therefore follow this same path. As a new antagonist, the first rumors mention the potential presence of Salomon Grundy but nothing has been confirmed. Finally, as a reminder, The Batman 2 will continue to be part of a distinct/alternate DC Universe different from the massive DCU project that Peter Safran and James Gunn are building. We should therefore not expect a link with the other films on the way.
