Since October 2021, the AFCAE has been thinking of cinema lovers and surprises / thinking of film buffs and surprise lovers thanks to the Coup de Cœur Surprise operation. The ambition of this action? Establish a new monthly meeting and arouse public curiosity. And this thanks to a simple idea: organize a surprise preview.

Thus, every month, the participating theaters offer spectators the opportunity to attend a session with their eyes closed… or almost. Title, filmmaker, synopsis, casting… No information is revealed before the start of the screening, allowing AFCAE member theaters to develop a real relationship of trust and loyalty with their audience.
After more than 90 films offered since the start of the operation (Aftersun, Armageddon Time, Le Procès Goldman, Simple comme Sylvain, etc.), animation and debates organized after the session, this collective work promoting the Arthouse movement continues its evolution. The average number of participating rooms as well as the number of entries per session have increased by more than 30% over the last 12 months. The operation even set a record in February 2024 with 270 participating rooms for more than 6,300 entries!
A success which underlines the extent to which the public relies on its local cinema to broaden its cinematographic horizons. So, are you ready to embark on the next AFCAE Surprise Favorite session?

Created in 1955, the French Association of Arthouse Cinemas (AFCAE) aims to support auteur cinema and defend the pluralism of film distribution venues, through a network of more than 1,200 cinemas and 33 territorial associations throughout France.
