10.8 million tax households will have to pay a tax surplus over the year 2020. Who will pay and why?
The Ministry of the Economy has published the results of the income tax declaration campaign for the year 2020. 10.8 million tax households will have to pay a tax surplus. Why ? The Ministry of Public Accounts explains this by an adjustment between the amounts withdrawn and the amounts ultimately actually due. For example, if your income increased last year and you did not report it in your particular space on impots.gouv.fr, or if you benefited from an excessively large advance of reductions or tax credits in January 2021 in relation to the expenses actually incurred.
A tax refund also possible in 2020
Conversely, for 12.7 million tax households, a tax refund will be made, in the form of refunds of credits or tax reductions for expenses incurred in 2020. This may relate to expenses of home child care or donations. It can also be a readjustment of the withholding taxes made last year, due to a drop in income or the birth of a child. This good news will arrive on August 6, 2021.
