With a price per liter more than half that of fossil fuels, Superethanol-E85 is well positioned to be the ally of drivers concerned about their purchasing power. 32% of stations on the motorway network now distribute them.

32% of motorway stations equipped

Since the beginning of 2022, 130 new Superethanol-E85 stations have opened. Thus, motorists who drive in original “flexfuel” vehicles (also called flex-E85) or equipped with approved E85 conversion units, can count on 2,887 stations spread across France and 32% of the stations on the motorway network.

The Occitanie (42%), Hauts-de-France (36%) and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (36%) regions have the highest rate of equipment in E85 stations.

When it comes to summer holidays, France remains the favorite destination for more than 7 out of 10 French people. Unsurprisingly, the car remains the preferred means of transport for 60% of them. However, faced with soaring fuel prices and inflation, the cost of fuel is rising sharply. As of June 24, 2022, the government website www.prix-carburants.gouv.fr listed an average price per liter of SP95-E10 of €2.04. During the same period, with an average price of €0.83/l, Superethanol-E85 was more than half the price of conventional gasoline.

The site www.bioethanolcarburant.com/mes-economies-au-e85 has recorded the average savings made on certain journeys. We learn that for a round trip Paris-Guérande, for example, the saving made is 63 €, 118 € for Paris-Perpignan, 139 € for Lille-Marseille and even 156 € for Strasbourg-Pic du Midi by example.

To find a station distributing Superethanol-E85, the “My Stations E85” application, for example, allows you to locate the nearest point of sale among the 2887 stations available in France. In addition, remember that vehicles equipped to run on Superethanol-E85 are also capable of using conventional unleaded gasoline. Indeed, the flex-E85 technology increases the quantities of fuel injected into the engine according to the ethanol content, knowing that ethanol contains less energy than gasoline.

Ile-de-France joins the movement of communities that help the French to switch to E85

Responding to both purchasing power and energy transition issues, Superethanol-E85 is on the rise with many local authorities who have set up aid to finance the installation of boxes. For more than two years, the Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) regions and several municipalities in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region have set up aid to finance the installation of conversion boxes on petrol cars. At the start of the year, the PACA region decided to double the amount of its “bioethanol transition check”, to €500. In the Hauts-de-France region, the departments of Somme and Aisne offer financial aid for the installation of state-approved E85 boxes. Finally, the Île-de-France region has voted to set up a flat-rate aid of €500 for individuals in the Ile-de-France region wishing to convert their petrol cars to bioethanol, with a target of 30,000 units installed between July 1 and the end of of the year, i.e. 15 million euros in aid.

Be careful, delivery times are exploding. In general car centers (Norauto, for example), delivery times for units have on average increased to five months, with an expected improvement over this summer period. Thus, for an order placed in August, the delivery will not be effective before the end of October.
