A thousand people will be moved to Ischia

ROME (Reuters) – A thousand residents were to be temporarily evacuated on Friday from Casamicciola Termede, a town on the Italian island of Ischia hit by a landslide, as more rain is expected, a government official said.

The landslide that occurred last Saturday in the small port of Casamicciola Terme following heavy rains left at least 11 dead.

Residents evacuated as a precaution will be temporarily relocated to hotels in Ischia for two or three nights, said Giovanni Legnini, government commissioner for emergencies.
