a touching film on the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren

Directed by Tim Hill and in theaters on October 7, My Grandpa and I reminds us of the importance of family ties, while making us laugh.

When Sally, played by Uma Thurman, feels that her father can no longer live alone with him, she invites him to come and live with her. Already annoyed at having to leave his house, Ed, played by Robert de Niro, finds himself confronted with another problem: the grudge of his grandson, Peter, forced to leave his room to him. Very angry at having to sleep in the attic because of the arrival of his grandfather, the latter has indeed declared war on him. He didn't expect his grandpa to fight back, however. Between them, all shots are allowed … much to the chagrin of Sally and her little family.

In addition to being hilarious, this comedy directed by Tim Hill is also touching. She evokes old age with sincerity and tenderness, or rather the moment when children have to take care of their parents. Often, seniors are far from delighted with this reversal of roles, and Robert de Niro brilliantly plays a grumpy grandpa who is resistant to any help. The director also illustrates the shock of generations often felt between grandparents and grandchildren. All the more so in an age where even the little ones have tablets and phones.

My grandfather and me Above all, raises an essential point: the importance of family ties and of supporting each other in any situation. Throughout the film, and despite the many pitfalls between Ed and Peter, there is a lot of kindness and a lot of love. The theme of transmission between grandparents and grandchildren is also addressed by the director, showing us that we still have a lot to learn from our elders. And this, even if during the film, we see to what extent they too know how to question themselves and listen to the youngest.

In short, My grandfather and me is a touching film, in which many families will recognize each other. In theaters October 7.
