A relatively extensive trade-in offer to boost sales of the ROG Ally Z1 console, the “lite version”.

On September 18, ASUS confirmed the imminent arrival of the ROG Ally “lite version”, a second console a little less powerful than the ROG Ally, because it is powered by a “Z1” APU.

ASUS has confirmed to us, the objective of this second machine is to cause less tension on cooling, ventilation and consumption by taking advantage of the fact that many users of the ROG Ally do not necessarily exploit the full power of the “Z1 Extreme” APU.

699 euros for the “lite” version

Between the ROG Ally Z1 Extreme and the ROG Ally Z1, the APU change is practically the only modification, with performance reduced by a third. In fact, this is insufficient for ASUS to significantly lower the price of its machine.

At 699 euros compared to 799 euros for the Z1 Extreme, this remains a notable drop, but ASUS cannot fight on price alone with Valve’s Steam Deck. So ASUS thought of another way to stand out. Another way to ease the pain for players.

On the occasion of the official release of the ROG Ally Z1 in France, ASUS is launching a buyback campaign around old – and less old for that matter – video game consoles.

Returns up to 400 euros

The idea is very simple since ASUS offers to take back your old console for between 100 and 400 euros for any purchase of a ROG Ally in Z1 version. That said, ASUS is not being shy and its offer also runs for any purchase of a ROG Ally Z1 Extreme.

The offer is detailed in the table above and therefore covers the trade-in of almost any recent console, but also Steam Deck. We like to wink at the competition at ASUS! It should be noted, however, that the offer is conditional on a purchase “ at a participating reseller: Accessories-asus.com, Amazon.fr, ASUS eShop, CDiscount, Boulanger, FNAC, Darty, excluding marketplace except PC Accessories and ASUS Accessories “.

ASUS also emphasizes that “ to benefit from this special offer subject to conditions, each customer must register at asuspromotions.com/rogally » before specifying that “ the site will be put online on Friday October 13 and the resumption conditions for acceptance of the file will be specified there. “.

Finally, let us point out that the offer is valid for the purchase of a ROG Ally from October 16, 2023 and that it runs until December 31, 2023.

ASUS ROG Ally

  • The flattering screen and excellent contrast
  • Performances
  • The care of

ASUS takes the (winning) formula of the Steam Deck and improves it in almost every aspect. The handling is excellent, the device more compact and less heavy. The very good screen makes all the difference, and the Z1 Extreme not only delivers impressive performance for the format, while controlling heating and noise pollution thanks to the excellent cooling implemented by ASUS. The autonomy will depend on the settings you make, but with concessions, it is possible to play for several hours without having to connect to the mains. Of course, by setting the TDP of the device to 30 W, you will hardly play for more than an hour and a half.

If Windows 11 allows full compatibility with the PC games library without any tweaking, SteamOS provides an environment completely designed for the Steam Deck, with ease of use close to the world of traditional consoles and extensive optimization for the hardware. On this point, ASUS still has work to do, and Armory Crate SE must improve to gain responsiveness and stability. If the manufacturer puts as much effort as Valve into monitoring its console, then the ROG Ally has a bright future ahead of it. For its first attempt at the portable console market, ASUS has done an excellent job.
