“A tremendous popular momentum”: a year after its creation, the PS takes stock of the Nupes

It is an alliance that has turned the political landscape on the left upside down. La Nupes – for New Popular Ecological and Social Union – celebrates its first anniversary this Sunday. It had been driven by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, shortly after the re-election of Emmanuel Macron, for the legislative elections of 2022. “This alliance first and foremost raised a tremendous popular momentum”, estimates the secretary general of the Socialist Party , Pierre Jouvet, at the microphone of Europe 1. This alliance brings together deputies from the PS, but also from La France insoumise, the PCF and Europe-Écologie Les Verts.

“A year after its creation, it has enabled 151 deputies to be elected. It has enabled a disunited left which has not spoken to each other for 25 years, to decide to continue, to walk together to change people’s lives”, continues the Secretary General in Europe 1 Midi Weekend.

The construction of a “hope” on the left

At the microphone of Jacques Serais, Pierre Jouvet affirms that Nupes “gives a horizon and a perspective which leads us to an immense responsibility, that of not betraying and not disappointing the hope of millions of women and men who have only the left and the ecologists to accompany them in their everyday life”. “This hope, that’s what we must build and pursue,” adds the secretary general of the PS.

Still at the microphone of Europe 1, Pierre Jouvet appeals to the partners of this alliance: “We must build this project together for French men and women, who will tell them that yes, to vote for left-wing and environmental candidates, that will change their lives too in their daily lives. That’s what we have to do”.
