A turning point at VW? Popular e-cars are becoming cheaper

The electric offensive is worthwhile for Volkswagen. The e-cars of the ID series are popular with customers and sell accordingly without any problems. However, high demand and production losses have led to rising prices. Now VW is launching a cheaper version of its electric flagship – but cheaper is relative.

VW is launching a new version of the ID.4: All-wheel drive now costs less for electric cars

In the past few months, VW has primarily relied on expensive models for the group’s electric cars, with which high profits can be achieved despite the smaller quantities. This strategy is far from over, but it is a current step suggests, at least in part, a realignment: The successful electric model from Wolfsburg, the ID.4, is available in a new variant.

The ID.4 Pro 4Motion is the cheapest version of the electric SUV, which still offers all-wheel drive. No trend reversal in e-car prices yet: VW is raising prices

You could also say: The ID.4 Pro 4Motion is the cheapest among the more expensive versions of the electric car. For Bagschik, this mixture is a reaction to the customers’ wishes: More performance may cost more, but not too much.

VW is already celebrating new successes with the ID Buzz:

However, potential customers pay another price for the more powerful drive: With more power, the range decreases. The ID.4 Pro 4Motion can cover up to 517 km according to the WLTP standard. The Pro Performance goes 20 km further on average.

It will be some time before there are cheaper e-cars from VW. The planned ID.2 should come onto the market from 2025. But it is already foreseeable that the price will rise by then.
