Netflix’s live-action series One Piece is a long time coming. But that’s about to change. The streaming giant announces a summer event and the adaptation will probably have a prominent place there.
My Hero Academia, One Piece… Netflix isn’t afraid to try to adapt manga for large live-action communities. The streaming giant has already tried the exercise several times with the result that we know. Death Note, Cowboy Bepop and several other works are often referred to as “massacres” by manga enthusiasts. But the platform signs and persists and firmly believes in its future programs. With the One Piece series, Netflix faces a major challenge: to realize the long-time dream of Eiichiro Oda, creator of the manga, and to convince readers of the work. The platform communicates cautiously around its adaptation, having contented itself with giving us an overview of the characters from behind. But we should finally soon find out what Luffy and his crew will really look like soon.
Here’s when the One Piece series should show up
Netflix’s One Piece series has been making headlines recently. False rumors, stolen images from the shoot revealing costumes, leak of the release date and official poster, the noose is tightening around the adaptation. The streaming giant is playing the card of caution, but the program expected for this year should finally show itself in good and due form soon. A new Netflix Tudum has indeed been announced for the June 17 at 6:30 p.m. French time.
A global event that will allow subscribers to discover live from their sofa new images of their favorite series and films, but also to take a look at upcoming programs. It’s confirmed, One Piece will be there, as will the live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender, also particularly awaited at the turn. The platform promises a whole bunch of announcements, revelations and previews of all kinds. The Witcher, Wednesday, Strangers Things, You, Berlin, Squid Game, Extraction 2 or Cobra-Kai are all programs that will join the festivities.
Finally a release date?
The One Piece series should nevertheless be one of the headliners of the event. All the main cast, namely the Straw Hat crew, of the adaptation will indeed be present during the event. We should therefore have the right to new information, images and most certainly, finally, a first trailer which will have the difficult task of reassuring an entire community ready to fall on Netflix. The stolen images and the official Vogue Merry poster have already sparked heated debate. The streaming giant is also expected to reveal the release date for the One Piece series at the same time. Perhaps the date of September 23 put forward by the program’s director of photography will be confirmed on this occasion. See you on June 17 to find out.
