A very practical function arrives on the Google password manager

Via the latest May update of its Play Services (24.20), Google has just concretely improved its password manager, the aptly named Google Password Manager. The tool, integrated into Android and Google Chrome, now allows you to securely share passwords with family members.

Google Password Manager gets better for families

As a reminder, within your Google account, it is possible to create and join a family, made up of a maximum of six people. Until now, this made it possible to set up rules for children, or to share numerous elements between members (photos, events, purchased entertainment and subscriptions to various services, etc.). Passwords are therefore added to this list.

How it works is very simple: from the password manager on your Android device or the web version, a family member with whom you share a password will simply receive a copy in their own Google Password Manager. Useful, for example, to connect to a shared service (SVoD, VPN, etc.) securely without having to send the password in plain text via a messaging application.

A gradual deployment

Note that at the time of writing, the rollout appears to be underway. You may therefore have to show a little patience, especially on desktop, because only mobile seems to offer this addition at the moment. Unfortunately, this only works between family members, and not with any contact as other password managers can offer. Google’s solution, however, has the advantage of being free and often already used by many people.
