A very unexpected hunting accident leaves a whole family in mourning

In the Meuse, a 50-year-old hunter died after being hit by a deer this Saturday, November 5. Accompanied by “experienced people”, the man, married and father of two children, took part in a bow hunt.

An extremely rare fatal accident. In the Meuse, 50-year-old man died after being hit by a stag this Saturday, November 5, when ihe took part in a bow hunting party, report our colleagues from La Voix du Nord.

According to information from the regional daily, the hunter, originally from Merville, in the North, had come to take part in a hunt in Dainville-Bertheléville, on the border of three departments: Meuse, Vosges and Haute-Marne. For this hunting party, he was accompanied by “experienced people, accustomed to this massif located in the foothills of the Vosges”, assures Hervé Vuillaume, president of the departmental federation of the Meuse, quoted by La Voix du Nord. “In more than twenty years, I don’t remember a fatal accident in these conditions. It happens that hunters are hit and injured, several times a season. In this dramatic case, the victim was in the animal’s line of flight, in the wrong place at the wrong time”added Hervé Vuillaume.

The hunter who died instantly

According to the first elements of the investigation, the fifties, married and father of two children, would have died on the spot, before the arrival of help. The shock must certainly have been extremely violent since the animal weighed between 150 and 200 kg. The hunter would not have seen the deer because of the particularly dense vegetation of the Meuse forest. However, additional examinations must be carried out to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy, indicated the command of the departmental gendarmerie of the Meuse.

Bowhunting is a practice that requires holding a permanent hunting permit. But it is also necessary to follow a day of compulsory training, in order to obtain an additional certificate, carried out before or after obtaining the permit.
