Batches of oysters sold in major supermarket chains have been recalled all over France, a few days before New Year’s Eve. A norovirus has been detected there, which can cause gastroenteritis in particular.

Hollow oysters, only sold in the Intermarché brand, were also recalled because of the presence of salmonella.
If no prefectural decree has requested the recall of these batches, Rappel Conso specifies that it is better that they are subject to a voluntary return, and this, if you do not want to have a bad New Year’s Eve , even a bad start to the year. The recalled lots include Vendée cupped oysterssold in certain departments at Leclerc, Intermarché, Super U or distributed via Works Councils, as well as Bouzigues oysters, sold at Auchan and Leclerc. Of the FQC Bouzigues oystersorganic Bouzigues oysters, Camargue oysters, Saint-Martin oysters, special FQC Mediterranean oysters sold in Carrefour Hyper, Carrefour Market, CSD, Proxi and Promocash are also subject to a recall, as are special Marennes Oléron oysters number 2, sold everywhere in France at Intermarché, and organic Bouzigues oysters, Camargue oysters, Saint-Martin oysters, signature Sanchez oysters, sold at Metro.

What to do if you have consumed these products?
If, despite this reminder, people have consumed the products mentioned above and present “symptoms of gastroenteritis (vomiting, diarrhea frequently accompanied by moderate fever)”they are invited to consult their doctor by informing him of this consumption, warns Rappel Conso. “Immunocompromised people should be particularly attentive to these symptoms, which may suggest infection by a virus (norovirus), responsible for gastroenteritis, the incubation period of which can be up to 48 hours”, adds the organization. The products can be returned to the point of sale for reimbursement.
