A toxic marriage of corporate elites and the government is currently being celebrated at the WEF, it is time for a divorce, demanded the President of Juso Switzerland Ronja Jansen at the rally in front of around 70 participants. “Democracy stops at the gates of the economy,” criticized Jansen. Only money would have a voice here.
Climate justice is not as difficult as some would claim. To do this, capitalism and its passing on of damage to the environment must now come to an end.
Million heiress among demonstrators
A rich person also performed at the event. The 30-year-old Marlene Engelhorn from Vienna is an heiress to millions “because she was simply born into a rich family”. But that’s not democratic – it takes much more “a democratic distribution of assets,” said Engelhorn. One must now talk about wealth and taxes.
She co-founded the organization TaxMeNow “so that wealth can be distributed fairly through taxes”. Accordingly, she had come to show solidarity with the 99 percent initiative. Symbolically, she presented herself “as the one rich percent” to the assembled climate strikers, who represented the 99 percent of the non-rich.
Comprehensive critique of capitalism
Around 50 climate demonstrators set off from Küblis GR on Saturday and reached Davos on Sunday afternoon. There they met Juso. They demanded that nature and people should once again be at the center of the economy and not just the greed for more.

“Capitalism out of people’s heads,” was what some of them said during their hike. They wanted to raise their voices during the WEF, where they thought only the “rich” would otherwise have a chance to speak. The demonstrators on the Postplatz in Davos Platz chanted “WEF – Mördertreff”.
Not enough fellow hikers motivated
In front of the lenses of international media representatives, the activists presented their concerns in Davos. The organizers on Saturday in Küblis had hoped that the number of participants in Davos would increase. “We learn from our mistakes,” said “Strike-WEF” organizer Gianna Catrina in an interview with Keystone-SDA on Sunday. They could not have won enough people for the march.
It is clear that the climate hike will also be carried out again at the next WEF. “We will then mobilize many more people for this,” promised Catrina.
