A woman sexually assaulted by her ex-companion: “We found ourselves locked up”

The confinement has made many victims of violence. This Tuesday, a woman spoke of the sexual assault she suffered from her ex-companion while they were locked up.

After new information on the murder of Lola, revelations on the Delphine Jubillar affair or even a potential second victim of swimmer Yannick Agnel, we learn of another case of violence, this time during confinement.

Sitting just a few meters from her ex-companion, Anne-Marie, whose first name has been changed, wanted to be recognized as a victim by the court in Senlis, in the Oise.

This Tuesday morning, the woman testified to the sexual assault she suffered in July 2020, without wanting the father of her child to return to prison. “Today I want to limit the damage, I don’t want to add penalties to him”, she testified at the bar after The Parisian. “I never wanted us to go that far,” she even added.

Aged 43, Gilbert was sentenced to 24 months in prison, ten of which were suspended. For the lawyer for the civil party, Anne-Marie is overwhelmed by suffering and guilt, and continues to bend, without breaking.

Sexual violence: a case during confinement

In July 2020, Anne-Marie told the gendarmes of Saint-Leu-d’Esserent about the sexual assault she had just suffered a few hours earlier. Her companion forced her to undress, forcibly kissed her, then forced her to have sex. But impossible for her to file a complaint, she only poses a handrail.

The soldiers place her husband in custody and find that he was convicted of raping his cousin when he was 13 years old. If the latter admits the lack of consent of his companion, he ends up going back on his version of the facts.

During the summer of 2020, Anne-Marie says she has been thinking about separation for several months. “I had this idea in mind for a year or two,” she told the court. I was raising my child alone. He was in denial about his illness and was not involved at all”.

But in March 2020, confinement was decreed and his decision must be postponed: “We found ourselves locked up. He, in his room, no longer ate, had strongly accentuated the alcohol…”, describes Anne-Marie. If the couple tries to reconcile, nothing works: “July 17, the day before the facts, I told him that it was screwed up, really finished”.

It was the day after her announcement that Gilbert demanded that she put on a nightie they bought together, that he stick her against the bedroom wall, and that he kiss her by force. According to him, “There was no yes, but no no either. At the time, I didn’t see it as a disagreement. Our relationship was ambiguous, it was a weird couple situation…”, he tries to justify himself.

For Anne-Marie, there was no confusion: “He saw that I turned my head when he wanted to kiss me, I even pushed him away. In the end, I ended up letting everything go, I let him. The sooner it will be done…”.
The ex-companion was not placed in detention at the end of the hearing. Anne-Marie, she left this time convinced of being a victim.
