Chinese customs officers intercepted a woman trying to smuggle 350 Nintendo Switch game cartridges hidden in her bra. The incident took place at the Liantang border post.
THE unusual stories of smuggling there is no shortage of them, but this one is particularly astonishing. After incidents such as the mysterious disappearance of Playdate consoles worth $400,000 in Las Vegas, or a scammer in Vendée who used his real name to sell fake game consoles, this new case is just as surprising. Chinese customs officers at the port of Liantang noticed a woman unusually large chest among incoming passengers. Her nervous behavior caught the attention of the officers, who decided to intercept it for further inspection.
During the inspection, customs officers discovered that the woman was trying to smuggle 350 Nintendo Switch game cartridges hiding them in her bra. The estimated value of the seized goods is 70,000 yuan, a total ofaround 9,000 euros.

Customs officials cited Article 7 of the Regulations on the Implementation of Customs Administrative Sanctions of the People’s Republic of China. This regulation forbidden to conceal, disguise, conceal statements, transport, carry or send goods prohibited or restricted when entering or leaving the country. Import or export goods without paying appropriate taxes is considered contraband and is illegal.

If the game cartridges are in fact not considered prohibited or restricted goods, this lady could still be subject to a fine of up to three times the amount of customs duties avoided. Liantang Port, located in Shenzhen, serves as a land border checkpoint with Hong Kong and was established to reduce traffic through the country’s other border crossings. It opened to passenger traffic on February 6, 2023.
