On January 12, 2023 around 8 p.m., in the Saint-Jacques district of Clermont Ferrand, a passerby came across a particularly disturbing scene. A 10-year-old girl is alone in the street. She is in panties, and visibly has stab wounds on her arms and thigh. The pedestrian immediately calls for help. The little girl then tells the unthinkable: it was her own mother who allegedly injured her with a knife. She then fled into the street, where she was found.
As soon as they arrived, the police went to the home of the mother of the family, not far from there. Inside, the apartment is messy. A kitten is found, also mutilated: its teeth and claws had been pulled out. The 37-year-old mother is present on site. She is shown to be very agitated, shouting, and evoking her daughter’s escape. When asked to account for the injuries of the little one, she speaks of a simple punishment.

The mother sentenced a month after the trial
On April 5, 2023, justice delivered its verdict on the case, whose appearances took place last March. Before the court of Clermont Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme), the thirty-year-old was accused of “violence on a 15-year-old minor by an ascendant and acts of cruelty towards an animal”. Despite the damning testimony of her daughter, the defendant chose to deny the facts en bloc. If she does not explain the attack, she claims never to have injured the girl.
At the end of the deliberations, the mother of the family was sentenced to two years in prison with a probationary reprieve. She will be required to follow a parental responsibility course, and her daughter remains placed for the moment with the Childhood Social Assistance. The 30-year-old will no longer have the right to own a pet.
