(CercleFinance.com) – ABB has signed an agreement with British gravity energy storage company Gravitricity to explore how lifting expertise and technologies can accelerate the development and implementation of energy storage systems by gravity in old mines.
Gravitricity has developed ‘GraviStore’, an innovative gravity energy storage system that lifts and lowers heavy goods vehicles into underground wells – to deliver some of the best features of lithium-ion batteries and pumped hydro storage.
Future GraviStores will store more than 20 MWh, providing long-duration storage and rapid delivery of energy to grid-constrained users and operators, distribution networks and major electricity users.
