ABB: Concerns expressed in the USA taken seriously

(CercleFinance.com) – ABB assured Friday that its activities were in compliance with American regulations, after receiving an accusatory letter yesterday from a parliamentary committee in Washington.

In a brief statement, the Swiss engineering group said it takes the matter seriously and is reviewing the contents of the letter with the intention of providing an appropriate response.

In this letter, four Republican parliamentarians responsible for investigating the security of the maritime sector in the United States, and more particularly its vulnerability vis-à-vis China, ask the leaders of the Swiss company to come and testify within the framework of their work.

They explain in particular that they are concerned about the relationship between ABB and ZPMC, a Chinese public company specializing in the manufacturing of cranes and port equipment, to which the group supplies software.

Recalling that it has responded to commission requests since the summer of 2023, ABB explains that it provides software and electrical and automation hardware for port cranes used around the world, including in the United States.

The group adds that its software technology is independent of crane manufacturers, including Chinese companies, and that American ports that acquire these cranes buy them from Chinese or other companies, but not from ABB.
