(CercleFinance.com) – ABB announces that it has been chosen by the SMS group – specialist in the construction of installations and mechanical engineering for the metallurgical industry – to supply its latest generation of variators to the H2 Green Steel factory from Boden, Sweden.
The project is currently in its first phase and production is expected to begin at the end of 2025. This will involve using hydrogen in the furnaces rather than fossil fuels, which will make it possible to obtain steel with 95 CO2 emissions. % lower than those of conventional methods.

ABB will supply approximately 1,200 ACS880 low-voltage (LV) drives for use in nine demanding areas of the plant, including the tunnel furnace, the plate rolling mill and the annealing and galvanizing line.
