ABB: will help PKN Orlen reduce CO2 emissions

(CercleFinance.com) – ABB, in collaboration with Hyundai Engineering and Técnicas Reunidas, has been commissioned to install its ABB Ability TM System 800xA distributed control system (DCS) in the new Olefin III complex in Plock, Poland.

PKN Orlen will thus be able to continuously monitor and analyze plant productivity, maximize performance, manage energy consumption, ensure product quality and optimize process efficiency by real time.

The group will be able to make more accurate and informed decisions to promote efficient energy use.

‘ABB is committed to helping customers reduce their annual CO2 emissions by more than 100 megatonnes by 2030. By combining our market expertise with our cutting-edge DCS technology for complex plant operations, we can help PKN Orlen to maximize its return on investment,” said Brandon Spencer, president of ABB Energy Industries.

In addition to the DCS, ABB will also supply several systems to ensure that the complex operates at optimum levels of safety, including a burner management system (BMS), an emergency shutdown system (ESD) and a protection system. High Integrity Overpressure Protection (HIPPS). These systems will be complemented by an industrial cybersecurity solution aimed at mitigating cyber threats to the complex.
