Kazakhstan wants to quintuple oil exports to Germany

Kazakh supplies are intended to reduce Germany’s dependence on Russian oil. Kazakhstan wants to increase exports to 100,000 tons in April. However, the oil has to be transported further through Russian territory.
Kazakhstan wants to increase its oil exports to Germany to 100,000 tons in April. This emerges from a press release from the state-owned pipeline company Kaztransoil. Energy Minister Bolat Aktschulatow had previously stated that Kazakhstan would export 20,000 tons of crude oil to Germany in April. The deliveries from Kazakhstan are intended to reduce Germany’s dependence on Russian oil. However, Kazakh oil is pumped to Europe via the Russian pipeline system.
Kazakhstan started energy supplies in January. Astana has applied to the Russian pipeline company Transneft for the transit of 1.2 million tons of oil for the whole of 2023. The amount goes via the Druschba pipeline, the northern strand of which runs north-east of Berlin to Schwedt.
The PCK refinery there processed mainly crude oil from Russia until 2022. In the course of the Western sanctions following the Russian war of aggression, the German government decided to forego Russian oil. However, the oil embargo is weakened by the supplies from Kazakhstan, since Moscow earns on the transit fees.
