Above all, do not humidify your anti-covid masks to counter the heat

With the heat peaks in France, the Directorate General of Health is giving some precautions.

"Respect for barrier gestures, in particular physical distancing and wearing a mask when this is not possible, must continue (…) The mask should never be moistened, even if this can provide a feeling of refreshment ( …) If the mask is wet (perspiration, etc.) it must be changed because its effectiveness is no longer guaranteed", says the Directorate General of Health (DGS) in its press release of July 30.

Indeed, it is not because it is very hot (32 departments in orange alert according to Météo France) and that the holidays are taking place that the sanitary rules must stop.

The daily report also insists on “special attention” towards the elderly while maintaining barrier gestures.

'The elderly are very vulnerable to hot weather and special attention should be paid to them in the context of the active circulation of the COVID-19 virus. "

For the DGS, vigilance must be maintained, no relaxation is allowed. The virus is still circulating, "with the number of daily cases increasing to over 1,000".

"Rapid and significant efforts are needed. Individually and collectively, we must act now to curb this active viral spread by respecting our national strategy: everywhere and permanently application of barrier measures and respect for physical distancing, rapid testing in the slightest doubt. , use of StopCovid, respect for the fortnight and isolation measures. ", insists the organization.

It is also reminded that simple actions are to be implemented in order to avoid dehydration, it is thus necessary to drink water regularly without waiting to be thirsty, to avoid alcohol, to eat enough and not to go out on time. hottest of the day. And above all, do not forget the barrier gestures that must be scrupulously followed in order to avoid the spread of the Covid.

"Let us stand in solidarity, be vigilant, let us hear from them, offer them help if necessary and remind them of the recommendations to protect themselves:

– Drink water regularly without waiting to be thirsty – Cool off the body (at least the face and forearms) several times a day

– Eat in sufficient quantity

– Keep your home cool (close windows and shutters during the day, open them in the evening and at night if it is cooler). "

Regarding the use of a ventilator, the health authorities strongly advise against its use in collective confined spaces. If it is really necessary, then reduce the speed of the blown air and place it as close as possible to people, and establish a significant distance.

"Thus, the ventilator can no longer be used in communities, in closed environments where there are several people. On the other hand, it can be used in the family environment in the absence of sick people", notes the DGS.

"In this summer period, family and friendly events, large religious and festive gatherings are particularly at risk of viral transmission and must involve a particular mobilization of all the participants. With family, between friends, it is preferable to gather small. number, to equip oneself with masks for the general public and hydroalcoholic gels, to favor ventilated and outdoor spaces, to ventilate the premises to limit contact as much as possible, to do everything so that the epidemic does not spoil these moments of sharing, ”she adds.
