Disgusting attacks against Upamecano after Bayern defeat

Because of his red card, Dayot Upamecano is the scapegoat for many after FC Bayern’s Champions League defeat at Lazio. On social media, however, the criticism often turns into racist attacks against the Frenchman. The people of Munich are defending themselves.
FC Bayern has strongly condemned racist comments against defender Dayot Upamecano on social media following their Champions League defeat at Lazio. These were “absolutely despicable,” the club wrote late in the evening after the 1-0 defeat in the first leg of the round of 16 at X. “Anyone who makes comments like that is not a fan of our club. We stand behind you, Upa!”
The 25-year-old Upamecano caused the penalty kick in the game that led to the only goal of the game by former Dortmund player Ciro Immobile in the 69th minute. Upamecano was also shown a red card for hitting Lazio attacker Gustav Isaksen in the penalty area and will therefore miss the second leg on March 5th. The French footballer was then massively insulted on his Instagram profile. However, users of the network quickly countered the disgusting attacks with encouraging comments.
There was a similar incident in the 2nd Bundesliga at the beginning of February. After missing a penalty in the game against Holstein Kiel, Luc Castaignos was racially insulted on social media. “I take full responsibility for my missed penalty,” the professional from 1. FC Magdeburg wrote on Instagram, who had failed from the spot against Kiel’s Timon Weiner in the 1-1 (0-1) draw: “But I don’t accept that “Let people write anything. Stop sending racist messages.”
Castaignos published a screenshot of a message with offensive and racist content. “I understand that people are mad at me,” said the Dutchman, referring to his missed shot: “I would love nothing more than to relive the moment and do it again for the fans and the clubs.”
Like FC Bayern, the FCM also stood behind its player: “1. FC Magdeburg strongly condemns these insults and distances itself from the person who wrote these disgusting sentences,” it said in a statement under the heading “Klare “Edge against racism”. In addition, the second division team announced that it would consider legal action.
