Abuse allegations – Green light for lawsuit against Prince Andrew – News

  • The abuse allegations against Prince Andrew can be followed up.
  • A New York court on Wednesday dismissed the objections raised by Andrew’s attorneys. This is evident from a court document.

The British royal lawyers had hoped to nip the lawsuit in the bud. In particular, they referred to a settlement that plaintiff Virginia Giuffre had concluded in 2009 with US multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

In the deal, it was agreed that no other people could be prosecuted in connection with the allegations of abuse. In return, Giuffre received $ 500,000. From the lawyers’ point of view, the agreement precludes the prince from being sued.

Agreement does not prevent the lawsuit

However, the judges did not agree with this assessment. The judge ruled that the said agreement did not prevent a lawsuit in the present case: the Epstein-Giuffre agreement did not clearly indicate that the parties involved intended to protect Prince Andrew.

With today’s ruling, the judge has now given the go-ahead for the US American Virginia Giuffre’s lawsuit against Prince Andrew, who claims he sexually abused her at the age of 17.

There has been no criminal investigation against Andrew so far. However, the prince resigned his official duties for the royal family in 2019 because of the allegations. In a BBC interview, he tried to refute the allegations, but could not convince.
