Accident drama in Lower Austria – two refugees hit by Zug, fatally injured

Dramatic scenes took place on Thursday evening in the Bruck an der Leitha district: four young men were walking on the tracks when two of them were hit by the train halfway between Hainburg and Wolfsthal. The other two were able to jump aside in time and were only slightly injured.

Ambulance, emergency doctor, the ÖAMTC rescue helicopter Christophorus 9 from Vienna, several fire brigades and the police were immediately on site shortly after the emergency call was received at around 5:30 p.m. But any help came too late for those men who were fully caught by the train. The rail connection had to be interrupted for the duration of the rescue operation. Origin and age still unknown Nothing is yet known about the origin and the exact age of the accident victims. According to the police, it should be refugees. At the time of going to press for this issue, it was still completely unclear why the migrants were out on the tracks when it was dark, of all places. The State Criminal Police Office has started the investigation.
