Accident in East Tyrol – injured climber (16) recovered with a rope

Serious alpine accident early Sunday evening in East Tyrol: A 16-year-old local had to be rescued by the crew of the emergency helicopter using a rope after he sustained serious injuries while climbing in the Galitzenklamm gorge in Amlach.

According to police, the accident happened around 5:30 p.m. The 16-year-old is said to have slipped his feet while climbing in the Galitzenklamm, whereupon he fell about two meters into the via ferrata set. It was not possible to move on. The young person suffered serious injuries in the lower leg area. It was no longer possible to go any further. “An uninvolved climber then set the rescue chain in motion,” the executive said. The injured person was finally recovered by the crew of the C7 emergency doctor helicopter using a rope and then flown to the district hospital in Lienz.
