Accident in Hopfgarten – paraglider collapses, pilot hits gondola rope

Paragliding accident in Hopfgarten: A German paraglider pilot (53) was flying about 250 meters above the ground when his glider suddenly collapsed. He sank uncontrollably and hit a leading cable of a gondola lift before hitting the ground. The injured person had to be taken to hospital.

A German paraglider pilot (53) took off on Sunday around 2:35 p.m. from the launch site on the Hohe Salve towards Hopfgarten in Brixental. The man was flying about 250 meters above the ground when the paraglider suddenly collapsed on the right side, according to the police. After the pilot pulled out his reserve parachute, the 53-year-old sank uncontrollably towards the lift route near the summit and crashed into the leading support cable of the gondola lift there before he hit the ground.First treated by mountain rescueThe man was rescued by mountain rescue, given first aid and brought to the valley. He was then taken to the hospital in Kufstein with significant injuries.
