Accident in Scheifling – 59-year-old farmer died in a forest accident

Tragic accident on Wednesday in Scheifling: A 59-year-old farmer was injured so badly in a forest accident that he died at the scene of the accident. Shortly before that, there had already been a forest accident in southern Styria – a 69-year-old survived with serious injuries.

Together with his wife (54), the 59-year-old farmer was busy with woodwork in his own forest area in the Scheifling municipality on Wednesday around 3 p.m. when the accident happened. The man was pushed against a tree by a birch tree hanging from a tractor’s winch and was pinched in the head and chest area. His wife immediately made an emergency call. The couple’s son was able to free his father from his trapped situation. The arriving rescue workers carried out first measures and resuscitation attempts. However, these were unsuccessful, the man had suffered such severe head injuries that he died at the scene of the accident. The body was removed by the Pöls mountain rescue service and the Scheifling volunteer fire brigade, which was deployed with a total of 29 forces. The relatives were cared for by the Murau crisis intervention team. A 69-year-old pensioner from the Leibnitz district was hit in the knee by a tree trunk while moving it with the cable winch of a tractor. The pensioner fell and came to rest in the creek bed. He suffered severe injuries in the area of ​​his right knee and, after first aid by the rescue service and the emergency doctor, was rescued from the creek by the St. Andrä/Höch volunteer fire brigade and taken to the LKH Südsteiermark in Wagna.
