Accor still targets net network growth of 3.5% – 04/28/2022 at 18:05

(AOF) – For the first quarter of 2022, Accor recorded revenue of 701 million euros, up 85% at constant scope and exchange rates (lcc) over one year. Revenue was down 23% like-for-like compared to the first quarter of 2019. RevPAR (revenue per available room, a key indicator for the hotel sector) more than doubled (+108% in published data) compared to first quarter of 2021 but still shows a decrease of 25% compared to the first quarter of 2019.

“Based on current trends in bookings and price increases, the improvement in RevPAR will continue over the coming quarters,” the hotel group said.

Domestic customers should return to levels comparable to those of 2019 by the end of the year. With regard to international customers, the recovery is accelerating even if Asia is still lagging behind.

During the first quarter of 2022, Accor opened 26 hotels corresponding to approximately 3,700 rooms, and thus posted net network growth of +2.5% over the last 12 months. At the end of March 2022, the Group had a hotel portfolio of 777,849 rooms (5,304 hotels) and a pipeline of approximately 212,000 rooms (1,212 hotels).

For the 2022 financial year, net network growth is expected at 3.5%, as announced during the publication of the 2021 annual results, with an acceleration in openings expected from the second quarter.

Very poor performance for world tourism

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) estimates that the sector lost 2,000 billion dollars in 2021 (around 1,780 billion euros), i.e. as much as in 2020. Due to the health crisis, international tourist arrivals remained at 70 75% lower than those observed before the pandemic, despite arrivals which rebounded during the summer season. UNWTO is not venturing to any forecast for 2022 due to uneven vaccination rates, new strains of Covid-19, and volatile oil prices.
