At the end of July, several dead sheep were found on a mountain pasture in Obertilliach in East Tyrol. Because there was a suspicion that a wolf was involved, the Tyrolean state government issued a shooting order at the time. Now a wolf has been killed in this area.
On Friday, a wolf was shot by the responsible hunting association, the state of Tyrol reported on Saturday afternoon. “This means that the regulation has been fulfilled – the regulation is repealed. The animal that was shot will shortly be brought to the AGES (Agency for Health and Food Safety) in Innsbruck and examined there,” it continued in a press release. “My thanks go to the East Tyrolean hunting association, whose efforts are protecting alpine animals and allowing the farmers of Obertilliach to breathe a little easier,” Deputy Governor Josef Geisler (ÖVP) was quoted as saying. Clear demand to Brussels The state government is sticking to the path it has chosen. Only with shooting permits that come into force immediately will there be a chance of actually killing risk and harmful wolves. The state of Tyrol’s demand to Brussels, however, remains that the protection status be lowered.
