This Monday in Geneva, the head of the WHO spoke at a digital press conference. While the coronavirus pandemic is weakening in Europe, this is not at all the case globally.
The head of the WHO wanted to warn people against all sloppiness around the world. Indeed, if in Europe we see that the coronavirus pandemic is more and more controlled, this does not seem to be the case on a global scale. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said it in a press conference this Monday, June 8: we must remain vigilant. He explains : "Over 100,000 new cases have been identified in nine of the past ten days. Yesterday, the toll rose to over 136,000 new cases" adding that it is the highest number on a day. 75% of the new cases registered on Sunday were in ten countries and this was mainly found in the United States as well as in South Asia: "Most people around the world are still susceptible to infection. (…) We are six months away from the start of the pandemic, now is not the time to ease off." he explained again in order to sensitize the greatest number to vigilance.
The head of the WHO also expressed himself on the anti-racist demonstrations which took place around the world by raising the importance of these movements but the vigilance which it is necessary to maintain in spite of everything: "WHO fully supports equality demands and the global movement against racism. We reject all discrimination. But we will encourage all those who demonstrate around the world to do so safely. Stay at home if you are sick and contact a health department. "
He therefore took the opportunity to recall the sanitary rules and barrier gestures that should not be forgotten in this complicated period: "As much as possible, stay one meter apart, wash your hands and wear a mask if you are going to demonstrate. Stay at home if you are sick and contact a health service." According to a report established by AFP, 403,000 dead have been resense since the appearance of the Covid-19 around the world. In addition, more than 7 million cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 196 countries.
