A video posted by 91Mobiles reveals a temperature sensor on the back of the Pixel 8 Pro that could serve as a thermometer.
While Google has just launched its new mid-range smartphone, the Google Pixel 7a, the manufacturer already seems to have its next premium models, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, in the starting blocks.
In fact, the site 91Mobiles was able to get his hands, thanks to the leaker Kuba Wojciechowski, on a video of getting started with the future Google Pixel 8 Pro. Enough to allow already, four months before its probable presentation, to discover the design on a smartphone, but also some of its technical characteristics.
At first glance, the Pixel 8 Pro looks identical in many ways to the Pixel 7 Pro launched late last year. We find in particular the horizontal aluminum bar on the back allowing reception of a module with three cameras. Nevertheless, below the flash, we can distinguish what would be, according to 91Mobiles, a temperature sensor. This sensor would thus make it possible to take a person’s temperature simply by bringing it as close as possible to the skull without however touching it and by rotating the smartphone around the head. A system quite close to what the technology currently used on non-contact thermometers offers.
Data that will remain private
91Mobiles also specifies that this sensor can also be used to measure the temperature of other objects and that the data will not be shared in the cloud, but will remain private. They can, however, be expected to integrate Google’s various fitness and health apps, be it Google Fit or Fitbit.
If Google keeps to its usual schedule, we can expect an official presentation of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro sometime in the fall. As a reminder, the firm had unveiled its Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro on October 6, 2022.
