ACCS Asnières: all you need to know about the Futsal club playing in the Champions League Final Four

The ACCS Asnières club is the first French futsal club to participate in a Champions League semi-final on Friday in Lithuania. Here’s everything you need to know about him ahead of the game.

A club created in 2008

The Citizen, Cultural, Educational and Sports Association (ACCES) was created in 2008, near the Cité de la Caravelle in Villeneuve-la-Garenne. A futsal section was founded in 2014, initially to occupy children and educate them through the prism of sport. Starting from DH (fourth national division), the club won the French Cup in 2017 while playing in the third division, and finally the French D1 championship last year.

The best player on the planet plays there

From 2016, the ACCS, which is gaining a good reputation, manages to attract some of the best French players like Kévin Ramirez and Abdessamad Mohammed, and becomes the first supplier of the French team. And in 2020, the club announces the signing of several foreigners including the Portuguese Ricardinho, several times voted best player in the world.

CASC plays at Teddy Riner Arena

The ACCS evolves at the Teddy Riner Arena, this two-storey gymnasium, in the Léo Lagrange sports complex, in Asnières-sur-Seine. The Arena has a multi-sports hall with 1,000-seat bleachers, a 240 m² multi-purpose hall, a multi-purpose hall for the practice of martial arts, a boxing hall, offices, changing rooms, and a conviviality area.

An administrative demotion

The ACCS is evolving this season in French D2, following its administrative demotion by the financial policeman of football, the DNCG, because of its accounts in the red “due to the Covid”. The team flies over the D2 championship with 16 wins in as many games.

Drafted for this Final Four

ACCS Asnières was initially not to participate in the “Final Four”, since it had finished 2nd in its qualifying group behind the Russians of Tyumen and ahead of the Kazakhstani Kairat Almaty, crowned twice. But the Ile-de-France residents were drafted after the exclusion of Tyumen, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, another episode of an atypical season in many respects for the club.
