Accusation of abuse of office – did Salzburg police officers help a criminal?

What’s going on with the Salzburg police? Next week an investigator will have to face the charge of abuse of office again. He is said to have warned a criminal against his arrest, according to the indictment. Just a few weeks ago, an investigator stood before the lay judges on a similar charge.

Abuse of office and violation of official secrecy are the allegations of the public prosecutor’s office against the accused Salzburg police officer. Next Thursday, the case will be heard in the Salzburg Regional Court – over two days.

In detail, it is about an arrest order against a Bosnian with multiple criminal records and living in Tennengau (33). The police officer is said to have given the criminal a valuable tip in March 2020: namely that there was an arrest order against him. At that time the man was still in Slovenia. The policeman is said to have advised him to stay there.

The 33-year-old is also accused of abuse of office. It is unclear how both will answer in court. Only recently, an accused Salzburg police officer denied the charge of abuse of office: According to the indictment, the drug investigator is said to have protected an informant in a large drug case. The process in this case will continue in November. Penalty threats: six months to five years imprisonment.
