These basic foods provide the necessary support for a balanced acid-base balance.

A balanced acid-base balance is important for a healthy life and ensures that we feel vital and energetic. If the pH value in the body is out of balance, this can have consequences for health. Signs that indicate hyperacidity are not always easy to spot.

How does hyperacidity arise?

If the acid-base balance is out of balance, one speaks of over-acidification of the body. It occurs when we consume too many acid-forming foods such as sugar, white flour products and meat and, in return, do not consume enough basic foods. External factors such as stress, alcohol and nicotine also have a negative effect on the acid-base balance.

Acidification: Possible Symptoms

At first you don’t really notice an acidosis in the body. However, those who suffer from headaches and nausea, excessive tiredness and weakness should have their family doctor check their acidity with a blood test. Sleep disorders, hair loss, allergies and skin problems are also possible symptoms, but the cause should always be clarified one way or another.

A quick test from the pharmacy provides clarity beforehand – the acid content is measured in the urine. If the result is “hyperacidity”, you can counteract this with the help of a special base powder and bring the acid-base balance back into balance. Furthermore, a diet rich in bases is of course the be-all and end-all …

What does an alkaline diet mean?

Those who eat an alkaline diet should keep the body’s own acid-base balance in balance. This in turn is involved in all important metabolic processes such as breathing, digestion or hormone production and is therefore important for health and well-being. A healthy diet should therefore consist of about 70 to 80 percent of basic foods. Here is an overview:

Alkaline vegetables

These include cauliflower, broccoli, cucumber, carrots, potatoes, kohlrabi, leeks, mushrooms, celery, asparagus, spinach and zucchini.

Alkaline fruits

The best choice here is avocado, apple, banana, pear, strawberries, fig, blueberries, kiwi, watermelon and lemon.

Alkaline salads and herbs

These products should be processed: basil, nettle, dill, iceberg lettuce, dandelion, coriander, cumin, lovage, almonds, oregano, parsley, rosemary, rocket and sage.

Alkaline drinks

The basic drinks include herbal tea, fresh vegetable juice, oat milk and almond milk. All in unsweetened form, of course.
