Activision confirms a sequel to Modern Warfare 2 for this year

While the idea of a paid extension for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 hovered for many months, it seems that Activision has finally chosen to change its tune. Indeed, if the original plans were to follow up on Modern Warfare 2 for at least two years, the publisher half-heartedly confirms that he now wants to start on a new complete game.

Like most games in the franchise, “Modern Warfare 3” should be released in the fall, without further details for the moment. The title will continue the story of its predecessor and should allow players to import some elements from last year’s game into this new installment.

An announcement that falls at the same time as the signing of the agreement between Microsoft and Sony concerning the future of FPS on PlayStation consoles. So the future of call of duty on PlayStation is guaranteed for the next 10 years. The next titles of the franchise will therefore be sure to be released on the PlayStation 5 but probably also on the PlayStation 6. Indeed, according to documents provided by Microsoft during the takeover of Activision Blizzard, the PS6 and the Xbox Series 2 would both arrive in 2028, i.e. 5 years before the end of the CoD agreement.
