Activision has confirmed the Modern Warfare 2 name for the next Call of Duty

While following leaks, we already knew it since last year, Activision has finally confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 will be next call of duty. Developed primarily by Infinity Ward, the return of MW 2 should be the last COD to be released on an annual basis. Note that the game could also be revealed privately to players and influencers during sporting events this week.

Modern Warfare 2, the future Call of Duty

It was no surprise to anyone, so the next Call of Duty will be a remake of Modern Warfare 2. After a first remake of Modern Warfare in 2019, Activision seems to want to ride on the success of its best titles to restore the image of Call of Duty. It must be said that the sales figures for the latest opuses have not been at the level hoped for by the group, all being less important than Modern Warfare in 2019.

The franchise’s latest annual Call of Duty?

Modern Warfare 2 should mark the end of a very important habit within the industry since, according to Activision Blizzard, it would be the last title to be released on an annual basis. Future games in the series will take longer to develop, with a schedule potentially based on releasing every two years.

The idea being to be able to implement more significant changes between each opus but also to allow parallel integration on Warzone. This change also marks the first major evolution around the franchise following the takeover of the group by Microsoft.

Thus, the new Call of Duty available in 2022 will therefore be Modern Warfare 2, one of the most popular installments of the COD franchise, via a sort of remake. You can find all our guides as well as all the news of COD and Warzone on our Call of Duty portal.
