Actor Michael Gambon, known for his role as Dumbledore in ‘Harry Potter,’ has died

Irish-British actor Michael Gambon, who played Dumbledore in Harry Potterdied at the age of 82, his family announced Thursday, September 28.

In his fifty-year career, he has won five Baftas and played the headmaster of the wizarding school in Harry Potter. “Loved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following pneumonia”according to his family’s press release.

For the British public, he also played Commissioner Maigret in the series broadcast on the ITV channel. Michael Gambon made his first appearance on stage in a production of Othello in Dublin in 1962.

The actor was knighted for his contributions to the entertainment industry in 1998. He also gave his name to a corner on the car show “Top Gear”, which he negotiated in spectacular fashion, narrowly missing the accident.

The show’s former presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, greeted on the social network X (formerly Twitter) a man “extremely fun” and one “incredible guest”.
