Actor Thomas Unger is an enthusiastic football fan and a big family man. Both have consequences for the European Championship, he says.

Actor Thomas Unger (born 1970) is a big football fan. He is therefore looking forward to the European Championship in Germany, which begins this Friday evening in Munich. “We are really excited,” he revealed in an interview with the news agency spot on news.

Football is a family affair

The way the Munich resident watches football matches varies greatly. “I like going to the stadium, but I also really like public viewing. And inviting friends and watching together is always great fun, of course,” he says, showing flexibility. A family member has now taken over the organization anyway: “But I also like to rely on my son’s activities and ideas, because I don’t even notice some things. He will tell me how he wants to watch it,” says Thomas Unger.

And which team are father and son rooting for at the European Championships? “Basically, I love football and enjoy every good game,” says the star of the recently concluded TV series “At Home in the Mountains” (2018-2024, Das Erste) diplomatically at first. But then he becomes more specific – and that again has to do with his family: “We have sympathy for Austria because my son was born in Austria, but of course we’re rooting for the German national team. We’re not experimenting there,” laughs the actor, who has also been on stage as Markus Söder in the Singspiel am Nockherberg since last year.

Coming soon in “Marie catches fire” – with Amira Pocher among others

Thomas Unger will soon be seen in “Marie catches fire” (since 2020, ZDF) by director Matthias Kiefersauer (born 1973, crime series “Munich Murder”). Since May, four new episodes of the primetime television series have been filmed with him, among others, as the production confirmed to spot on news. “He starts out as a first-aid paramedic and then becomes a fireman – and he has a dark secret,” that much can be revealed.

In one of these four new episodes, presenter Amira Pocher (31) can also be seen in a guest role as an influencer. It is not yet known when the films will be broadcast.
