Actress Angelica Ross accuses Emma Roberts of intentionally misgendering her on the set of American Horror Story: 1984


The two actresses appeared alongside each other in the ninth season of Ryan Murphy’s horror anthology series.

Actress known among others for her roles in Pose and American Horror Story: 1984, Angelica Ross is an American businesswoman, actress and defender of the rights of transgender people. She took to her social media to voice disturbing allegations of transphobia and workplace toxicity against her former American Horror Story co-star Emma Roberts.

Sharing her experience on Instagram Live, the actress opened up about an interaction that left her “boiling” after Emma Roberts misgendered her on the set of the series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

In her lengthy Instagram post, Angelica Ross recounts the events leading up to Emma Roberts’ comment, explaining exactly where the duo were at the time it took place. Probably referring to one of the season’s directors, John J. Gray, Ross says she and Roberts were in the middle of a conversation when the latter called the episode’s director and said jokingly: “Angelica is mean“.

When Gray asked the two women to get back to work by calling them “ladies“, Ross says Roberts corrected him by saying: “Don’t you mean – lady?” (“Don’t you mean – lady?“), using the singular which implies that she alone is a woman.

Caught off guard, Angelica Ross says she “trying to digest“these offensive comments. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, she explains that she was forced to calm down because she knew that if she spoke out, she would be considered “the problemTo explain why she was sure this would be the case, Angelica Ross says this is far from the first time such a thing has happened with Emma Roberts.

I know this because there was someone who denounced what [Roberts] did and who suffered the consequences. Not her, the person in question“. From that point on, during filming, Ross says she never interacted with Roberts again outside of scenes in which they were both participating. Noting that “[Roberts] could feel the energy emanating from me“, Ross adds that while his co-star tried to get to the bottom of things, she remained silent, adding that Roberts would have “played a battle of nerves with everyone on set“.

Emma Roberts’ reaction

The magazine Vulture reports that according to Angelica Ross, Emma Roberts has apologized for her transphobic remarks and actions on the set of American Horror Story. “Thank you @RobertsEmma for calling and apologizing, recognizing that your behavior was not that of an ally“, posted Angelica Ross on X (ex-Twitter) which can be seen in the post below.
