Ad-free Fire TV Stick: New app makes it possible despite Amazon ban

AMAZON FIRE TV

The Fire TV Stick home screen is full of ads. Amazon recently blocked popular apps that hidden them. A new app enables the use of alternative launchers again.

A major criticism of Amazon’s popular Fire TV Stick is the confusing start screen. Here your apps mix with program recommendations generated by Amazon and advertisements for the mail order company’s services.

Although the flood of advertising can be curbed in the Fire TV settings, for example you can get rid of annoying full-screen advertising, but you can only turn them off completely by installing an alternative Fire TV launcher. Recently, however, Amazon has blocked some popular apps from this category.

New version Launcher Manager Mini can replace home screen again

But according to the blog AFTVNews, a developer has now managed to circumvent Amazon’s block. With a new version of the Launcher Manager Mini, it is again possible to replace the Fire TV Stick’s home screen with your own.

However, installing the app is not entirely trivial. After it has been installed via sideload, you need to grant the application some permissions using command line commands. Only then will it be possible to replace the start screen again. How long remains to be seen, of course, because Amazon will probably continue to try to curb corresponding modifications.
