DFB team has to do without captain Neuer

Manuel Neuer will probably miss the DFB team in the evening against Romania. The captain and goalkeeper suffers from adductor problems, according to various media. His substitute Marc-André ter Stegen will probably be used in the World Cup qualification.

According to information from the “Kicker” and the “Bild” newspaper, captain Manuel Neuer missed the German national team’s World Cup qualifier against Romania (8.45 p.m. / RTL and in the live ticker) in Hamburg. Accordingly, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper suffers from adductor problems. The German Football Association (DFB) did not confirm this on request and referred to the announcement of the list at 7.30 p.m.

Neuer suspended the first training session next to Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion on Monday for reasons of regeneration. In September, the 35-year-old skipped the international match against Liechtenstein (2-0) due to ankle problems. But against Armenia (6-0) and Iceland (4-0) he was between the posts.

Other goalkeepers in the squad of national coach Hansi Flick are Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona), currently the clear number two, and Bernd Leno (Arsenal FC). Leno had played against Liechtenstein. Now ter Stegen will probably get his chance.

In the World Cup qualification, the seventh game day is on. Germany leads Group J with 15 points, Armenia is second (11 points) ahead of Romania (10). The first leg against Romania in March – still under the former national coach Joachim Löw – the DFB team won 1-0 with a goal from Serge Gnabry. Only the first in the group will qualify directly for the tournament in Qatar next winter.
