Lightroom continues to refine its functionalities with the help of AI. This includes the brand new Generative Delete tool, which aims to revolutionize photo editing.
For Adobe, it’s about constantly delivering new tools in Lightroom that allow anyone, regardless of skill level, to edit photos from anywhere and on any device.
For more than a year, the software has given pride of place to AI to allow as many people as possible to try their hand at photo editing. The brand also indicates that it has reworked Lightroom’s mobile interface to offer even more fun and intuitive use.
Generative deletion being deployed on Lightroom
Adobe announces the arrival of a new Generative Delete tool within Lightroom, all powered by Firefly AI. Advertised as “ the most powerful removal tool in Lightroom », the latter aims to remove unwanted objects from a photo with a simple click. Obviously, the AI immediately takes care of matching the deleted areas with the parts generated pixel-perfectly, for a realistic and natural rendering.
Currently rolling out in Early Access across the Lightroom ecosystem, the Generative Delete tool is intended to be as easy to use as a photo cropping feature. With one click, you can get rid of a crowd in the background, but also clean up a cluttered landscape by removing road signs, a trash can or an unsightly pole.
Retouching always simpler, always faster
At the same time, Adobe also announced the launch of another tool, namely “Lens Blur”, which allows you to apply aesthetic blur effects with a single click, on any part of a photo. It also includes new automatic presets. According to Adobe, since the launch of Firefly in March 2023, the tool has generated more than 8 billion images around the world.
“ When the Generative Delete tool becomes available to all users, Content Credentials will automatically be added to photos edited with this feature in Lightroom “, explains Adobe. Let us also point out that according to a study published by the brand, 73% of us in France believe that it is important to know if the content consulted was generated by an AI.
The Generative Delete tool, powered by the Firefly model, is now available in early access across the entire Lightroom ecosystem (mobile, desktop, iPad, Web, Lightroom Classic, etc.). For its part, the Lens Blur tool is already accessible to everyone.

Lightroom Classic is arguably one of the most capable image management tools on the market. Over the versions, Adobe has been able to equip it with essential and efficient functions. We especially appreciate its capabilities in terms of cataloging but we bitterly regret that you have to pay a subscription to use it.
Much more geared towards the general public, Lightroom CC gets rid of professional functions to concentrate on image editing. Available on computers, smartphones and tablets, the application shines with an intuitive interface and welcome synchronization possibilities. Here too, a subscription is required to take full advantage of it. Damage.
